Welcome! We’re Mabel & Cameron (and Rooster)!

Both Outer Banks Natives, we got married right here on Hatteras Island in 2023. Cameron grew up in Hatteras, and today he’s the owner/operator of Tradition Fishing, out of Hatteras Village. Mabel hails from Manteo, and is a former elementary teacher.

Our dream has always been to create a space that brings people together, whether you’re an OBX local looking for a sweet treat after a day on the beach, or a visitor soaking in the charm of the Outer Banks. We want to share a taste of Hatteras Island with everyone who steps through our doors.

The story of reEl swirly

From toys to frozen yogurt.

For years we talked and dreamed about opening a frozen yogurt shop on Hatteras Island. We always felt like Buxton was missing a gathering spot for families to enjoy a cool treat after a long beach day, but we just needed to find a spot!

In 2024 we found our perfect location, but it came with a catch, it was a toy store! That same year we purchased Hatteras Island Toys, and with it came a giant task ahead of us, we had to get rid of all the toys! We spent the rest of the year slinging toys and supporting as many local and state-wide charities as we could through toy donation.

With the help of our dedicated locals & vacationers we sold out of toys and donated over $10,000 worth of toys to both Toys For Tots & the Western NC relief efforts just in time for the holidays. With the building empty the real fun began, and just before the New Year renovations began on Reel Swirly.
